Safety at electrical work – Grid and electricity networks

Course content

The course is targeted at electricity professional who work in high-voltage substations, transformer substations and on electricity transmission networks.

The course contents are based on the European Union EN 50110 standards for operation of electrical installations and EN-SFS 6002 Safety at electrical work. The training is valid in all CENELEC countries*. (look full list below) In other countries, the local occupational safety legislation and the national supplementary requirements for electrical safety of the country in question must be obeyed.

1. Dangers of electricity and how to protect yourself against the dangers.
2. “Safety at electrical work SFS 6002 – General”, you will learn the basic conditions for the safe execution of electrical work. In addition, you will familiarise yourself with the personal protective equipment and the ambient conditions, which must be taken into account when carrying out electrical work.
3. Competence requirements and areas of responsibilities. In this section of the course, you will learn the competence requirements and areas of responsibilities in electrical engineering as well as duties of skilled persons in terms of electrical safety.
4. Operating activities and inspections. In this section of the course, you will learn about the operating activities and inspections that skilled persons can carry out.
5. Demanding disconnection and connection work. In this section you will learn the safe work methods and work procedures for demanding disconnection and connection work at the work location.
6. Working close to live parts. In this section you will learn safe working practices close to live parts. When you are studying this part of the course, think at the same time about what you can do to promote the safety of your co-workers, especially those who have not been given instruction in electrical safety or who are not skilled persons, when work is performed close to live parts.
7. Live working. In this section of the course you will learn the definitions of live working and the conditions of safe working required in live working.
8. Medium and high voltage networks and substations – working environment In this section you will learn issues that need to be taken into account in the planning of safe work methods for demanding disconnection and connection work. This section also revises the important occupational safety issues discussed in the course earlier.
9.
